Informations details
Tour : Saint Paul de Vence
Description :
As you depart Monaco, your coach will drive you to St Paul de Vence.
The tapering outline of the 16th century village of Saint Paul stands out from afar above the rolling hills and rich valleys of the Vence countryside in a charming setting. It is typical example of the fortified towns which once guarded the Var frontier. Set on a hill behind ramparts which are still partially intact, the village has retained much of its medieval appearance.
Saint Paul de Vence was “discovered” in the twenties by painters such as Signac, Modigliani, Bonnard, and Soutine who used to meet in a café which has since become the sumptuous Colombe d’Or Inn. After a guided walking tour of Saint Paul de Vence you will have some time at leisure. You may take the opportunity to visit on your own the Foundation Maeght, one of Europe’s finest of modern art museum, situated just outside the walled village. The Maeght Foundation was designed by the Catalan architect José-Luis Sert and built in 1964. The museum is made up of two buildings divided by a court peopled with sculptures by Giacometti. The collection of modern art is exhibited in rotation in specially designed rooms. Then return to the ship in Monaco by motorway..
